In Depth Back Story: Pretty Peppy Chec

If you take a look at NRHA Professional Jarvis Anderson’s program you will see the time, effort, and hard work he and his family have put into their stallion Pretty Peppy Chec. “Checkers” as he is known in the family is a striking 2005 model stallion by the legendary $3 Million Dollar Sire–  Lil Ruf Peppy, out of the great mare Chex N Whiz – a full sister to the great Banjo Whiz. Chex N Whiz earned $16,539 NRHA before becoming a producer of over $110,000. Chex N Whiz is also a full sister to the great Ebony Whiz – a leading NRHA producer and the dam of one of NRHA’s leading ladies Ebony Shines – dam of Shine Chic Shine, Shiners Chic, and Shine N Spook. Talk about depth of pedigree….. WOW!!

It all started at the NRHA Breeder’s Showcase sale, Jarvis was looking for a very special prospect. Pretty Peppy Chec a colt bred by Tom and Mandy McCutcheon caught his eye. A big mature deep bay colt that looked more like a 2 or 3 year old, than a yearling. The second thing that caught Jarvis’ attention was his big kind eye. They got the colt bought and well, as they say, the rest is history….

Pretty Peppy Chec and Jarvis Anderson teamed up to win more than $103,000 in the NRHA and over 36 AQHA Points. Together they were the 2008 NRHA Intermediate Open Futurity Co- Reserve Champions. Their career together also included being 2009 Mile High Open Derby Champion, 3rd at the 2010 Cactus Reining Classic Open Derby, 3rd in the Tulsa Reining Classic Open Derby in 2011, and 5th at the NRBC in the 7 & UP in 2012. Checker’s also was 3rd at the Kentucky Reining Cup CRI3 in 2013 proving his longevity and soundness in the show pen both physically and mentally.

When asked what the best quality about Checkers in the show pen Jarvis says, “He was a big consistent stopper, honest, and dependable.” His babies are shaping up to be the same way. With limited foal crops Pretty Peppy Chec has already produced NRHA money earners, and TWO NRHA Open Futurity Finalist in Dunit Wheel N Dealin and 2016 NRHA Open Finalist Prety Fashionable out of RC Fashion Chic.

In 2016, his foals are already proving to be a force in the futurity pen with Pretty Chex Design – 3rd in Denver Open Futurity with NRHA Professional Jay Dee Anderson, Poetik Justice earning over $6500 at the Tulsa and High Roller Futurities with top Non Pro James Morgan DVM, and Jarvis rode a really talented colt Prety Fashionable that he made the Open finals on and quite a bit of money.

We asked Jarvis what he thought Checkers is crossing on best so far? He believes the Hollywood Jac 86/Hollywood Dun It crosses are really something special, and was very impressed with Prety Fashionable out of the Smart Chic Olena mare. If you are looking for the potent Whiz breeding with more size and bone – Checkers stands a solid 15.1 hands. He is passing on his strong conformation, great bone, big kind eye, and jaw dropping baby doll heads to everything he sires. The cherry on top is the legendary pedigree and long show record to top it all off!

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets in reining Pretty Peppy Chec has proven himself with longevity and consistency in the pen,  a pedigree of champions and producers top to bottom, and siring money earners that are proven to be as dynamic and consistent in the show pen as he was. If you are looking for a true sire, Pretty Peppy Chec is one to seriously consider. Think about it in 2016 he only had 12 foals of showing age — two of those made the NRHA Open Futurity Finals. There aren’t many stallions that sire one open finalist with large foal crops. Checkers has already done it twice with limited foal crops.

Big thank you to Jarvis and Stephanie Anderson and The Other King Ranch for bringing WhoaZone on board in the marketing scheme for such a potent up and coming sire. We are eager to see where this horse’s career in the breeding barn with the legendary Shane Plummer at SDP Buffalo Ranch goes – we know it will be full of CHAMPIONS.
