  • 87% of reiners polled have been NRHA members for over 4 years

  • Age breakdown: 11% under 21; 6% 21-30; 12% 31-40; 25% 41-50; 45% over 51

  • 70% of reiners polled are married

  • 81.5% of reining families polled have 1 or 2 members in the household

  • 10% of reiners polled do not work

  • 57% of reiners polled earn less than $100,000 per year; 12% earn more than $200,000 per year

  • 73% of reining families polled own between 2 and 5 show horses; 3% own more than 10

  • 45% of reining families polled own 2 or 3 broke-to-ride reining prospects; 5.5% own more than 6 prospects

  • 56% of reining families polled own at least 2 weanling or yearling prospects; 12% own more than 6 youngsters

  • 65% of reining families polled breed 1 to 3 mares per year; 4% breed more than 11 mares

  • 75% of reiners polled do not own a breeding stallion; 25% do own a breeding stallion

  • 73% of reiners polled attend 4 to 10 shows per year

  • 54% of reiners polled say their average show expenses are $500 to $1500 per show

  • 79% of reiners polled say they show to relax and have fun; 63% show to increase their horse's value; 44% show to win money; 35% show for recognition; 9.5% do not show

  • 74% of reiners polled get a new show horse every 1-3 years

  • 56% of reiners polled are dissatisfied with NRHA Administration; 26% would choose to change the costs related to showing; 4% would change nothing
