THE IDEA: Create a new North
American Affiliate Championship Show, separate from the NRHA
Futurity.
AUTHOR: Rod Miller
WHY: Based on recent
membership statistics, the total 2007 Futurity entries (538)
represented approximately 11% of the total NRHA membership
(14,000). This is even generously figuring 3 owners
per entry. The vast NRHA exhibitor base has outgrown
this sport's need to put such exaggerated emphasis on the
aged events - namely, the NRHA Futurity and Derby. While
aged events will always be a hallmark of our association, we
need to also offer a more definitive venue to the 89% of
reining competitors who choose not to show at the NRHA
Futurity and Derby.

NEW NORTH AMERICAN AFFILIATE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW |

This proposal
suggests that the NAAC Championships be moved away
from the NRHA Futurity so that the program and its
winners can be the center of attention at their
Championships. This would put the spotlight on their
achievements and direct far more focus on the
sponsors of the NAAC program.
The cost of stalls and other fees associated with
the Futurity Show are too high for the average NAAC
competitor who may go for only one class, and the
recognition of showing in the make up pen is not
worth all that!!
The NAAC is the fastest growing program that the
NRHA has and it could be made even bigger if it was
separated from the Futurity and the added costs that
go with that.
My proposal will
allow for a true NAAC Championship Show that will
not be over-shadowed by the Futurity, as is the
current circumstance, and it will allow NAAC
Champions all the publicity and recognition that the
Futurity Champions currently enjoy.
We invite member
comments and feedback on this proposal!! |
