In late October, the NRHA Board of Directors voted on several matters -

one of which was the modification of the North American Affiliate Conditions.

 AMONG THE CHANGES IS THE REQUIREMENT THAT NORTH AMERICAN REINERS

"join both your local affiliate and your National Associate Affiliate,

if one exists in your country, to qualify for participation!"

This was less than 30 days after BYLAW J passed by majority vote eliminating dual

membership requirements in order to compete in an NRHA approved event.

North American Affiliate Championship Conditions Revisions

What Changes?

For the three North American countries, Unites States, Canada, and Mexico, these Affiliate Conditions changes are somewhat inconsequential.  Changes include;

  • the submittal deadline of the circuit schedules from Nov 1st to Dec 1st;

  • submittal of the final roster to NRHA 30 days prior to the finals;

  • circuit series to end 30 days versus two weeks prior to affiliate finals;

  • Mexico to now have their own affiliate finals to qualify exhibitors for the NAAC in OK.

However, for the North American Affiliate Championships in Canada and Mexico, one additional change has been made.

  • The modification requires any NRHA member in those countries who is interested in participating in the affiliate finals program to not only be a member of their local affiliate BUT to ALSO be a member of their National Association Affiliate if they have one.  This change requires Canadian exhibitors join Reining Canada should they wish to compete in the Affiliate Championship Series.

The U.S. does not currently have a National Association Affiliate, so U.S. Reiners are not currently impacted by this provision.  However, should the U.S. ever develop a National Association Affiliate concept, this rule would automatically apply to U.S. reiners.

Question:

Should the NRHA board have voted to overturn the results of Bylaw J* by re-wording the North American Affiliate Championship Conditions?

*Bylaw J passed by majority vote at the October NRHA general election.  Bylaw J eliminated the requirement to be a member of another association in order to compete in an NRHA approved event.  Although the actual wording appears to eliminate local affiliate and alliance organizations, the intent was to eliminate mandatory dual National level memberships.  It appears that an amendment to the working of Bylaw J is already in the works for 2008.
